With the first month of 2024 almost behind us, our rural enterprise blog this week focuses on February events and deadlines, as well as important updates for spring:


Open University Microcredential Courses

The OU in Scotland is currently offering some fully funded places on their accredited Microcredential courses. These courses run from 10 – 12 weeks online and are designed for people looking to gain new practical skills and knowledge for work. Courses on offer include subject areas such as: Financial Accounting; Project Management; Sustainability; Mental Health; People Management; Leadership; Change Management; Marketing. Flexible Working

For businesses with employees, find out about the new flexible working legislation coming into effect in 2024 here.


Appointment of Board Members to Highlands and Islands Enterprise

Scottish Ministers are looking to appoint up to two new Members of the Board of Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE). Appointments will be from April 2024 and last for three years. Find more information and apply here.


eBay for Change Webinar

In partnership with Social Enterprise UK, eBay for Change helps social enterprises join the eBay marketplace and access millions of shoppers. Social Enterprise UK are offering businesses a free introductory webinar to learn more about how you can set up and scale your shopfront. Low Emission Zones

Low Emission Zones (LEZs) have been introduced across Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee and Aberdeen and will be enforced in May/June 2024. This may affect business who deliver in those areas. Find out more and see dates here.
