Rural Enterprise News: 27 January

We are nearing the end of the first month of 2023! We hope you are well on your way to setting intentions for your rural business or community this year, and perhaps even reaching some of them already. In this blog post, we're sharing some awards, events and opportunities to support you:


Entrepreneurial Masterclasses: Lochaber Chamber of Commerce, Skye Connect and Inverness Chamber of Commerce have combined for a series of Entrepreneurial Masterclass. The series starts in Portree on Tuesday 7 February, hosted at the Isle of Skye Candle Co Visitor Centre, followed by an evening at Eden Court, Inverness on Wednesday 8 February and finally the Highland Cinema in Fort William on Thursday 9 February.


Scottish Walking Awards: Entries are open for the 2023 Scottish Walking Awards, showcasing inspiring walking projects. Nominations from all regions of Scotland and all sections of society, including projects that support people who use wheelchairs and other mobility aids, are encouraged. Winners of the ten categories, as well as an overall Champion of Champions, will be named during National Walking Month in May 2023. Anyone can make a 250-word nomination before the deadline on Sunday 19 March here.


Social Enterprise in Scotland Census 2021 Results: The 2021 social enterprise census is now available at the Social Enterprise in Scotland Census website here. A webinar with Social Enterprise Scotland to discuss the results and explore the key priorities as identified by the Social Enterprise Action plan is taking place on Tuesday 31 January at 1pm. Build, Run and Scale - Work AND Life Balance: This new Accelerator programme is made up of 8 free sessions which will focus on the fundamentals of creating the optimum work and life balance. The sessions are workshop based, with content designed to equip entrepreneurs with the tools to help both themselves and their business succeed. You will get the most from this programme if you are a high-growth start-up or existing businesses in the Perth & Kinross region. Find out more here.


Scone Palace Recruitment Open Days: Scone Palace is looking for seasonal team members, with vacancies in Front of House roles such as Guiding, Retail, Hospitality, Ticket Sales as well as looking for a new Weekend Duty Manager and roles in Housekeeping. The Open Days are on Wednesday 25th January and Tuesday 21st February between 2pm and 7pm, or you can contact anne@scone-palace.co.uk to register your interest to join the team. Mint Ventures in Perth: Making Angel Investing Accessible for Women: This free event will raise awareness of angel investment, in particular the challenges for women business founders and to encourage more women to consider angel investing.
