ABOUT SMART VILLAGE SCOTLAND
Smart Village Scotland is creating digital communities which incorporate local information, directories and signposting with e-commerce facilities for local businesses. Maximising the fast improving digital connectivity these web communities can support rural towns and villages achieve their goals. These goals may be attracting more visitors, supporting growing businesses, connecting their existing residents or simply making them better places to live and work.
GrowBiz is building on the successful Smart Village pilot created by Kenny Higgins for the village of Strathyre, and with funding assistance from Rural Perth & Kinross LEADER and others, will support 10 Smart Villages in Perth & Kinross, as well as developing at least five enterprise ‘hotspots’ in rural Perthshire. The hotspots will combine digital learning with the tried and tested enterprise support services GrowBiz deliver.
Smart Village can also be designed for communities of interest such as adventure sports or visual arts. As part of the project GrowBiz will develop a number of Smart Village platforms for communities such as these. Specifically we will develop a ‘proof of concept’ Artisan Smart Village platform, providing a marketing/selling/fulfilment portal for local makers, artists and producers. This will simply provide an additional promotional avenue for micro businesses but also provide a full e-commerce and fulfilment service for businesses who want to outsource their marketing and distribution functions. A key component of the platform will be its story-telling and focus on provenance, and the concept will be developed to be easily replicable in other parts of Scotland.
We are now inviting rural communities from across Scotland to get in touch if they would like to become part of the developing network of Smart Villages. Please get in touch for an initial discussion with one of the team firstname.lastname@example.org 01828 627790
